frankincense
a brief overview
At StrangeMakes.Com , we pride ourselves in making therapeutics from scratch beginning with the whole plant. During this blog post, I would like to introduce you to a well revered herb called Frankincense known as Ru Xiang in Traditional Chinese Medicine.
The medicinal properties of Frankincense are vast and date back to the King Tut era around 1300 BC. Many ancient applications of Frankincense are still used today to treat inflammatory disease, heart disease, asthma, cancer, diabetes, memory function, fertility, various skin conditions and pain.
When properly extracted, Frankincense can be used topically and is an excellent anti-microbial, anti-fungal, redness and inflammation reducer and bruise healer. Plus, it contains a steroid-like structure which soothes and heals irritated skin.
Unfortunately, and as with many of the medicinal herbs we utilize in our Purple Grass Balm, Frankincense is on the fast track to becoming endangered. Due to careless harvesting practices and ecosystem degradation, if concerted efforts arenβt urgently made to secure itβs long-term availability, Frankincense production is projected to be halved within 20 years.
StrangeMakes.Com supports the work of Dr. Anjanette DeCarlo who is a director of SaveFrankincense.Org. Her research combines local and traditional knowledge of frankincense harvesting with the most current scientific research to determine the best practices for procuring this threatened resource.
To date, Dr. DeCarlo is working with a wide range of partners to establish a Certifiable Resin Supply Chain. We will continue to follow her guidance to ensuring our Frankincense is ethically sourced and fair traded.

Safety and effectiveness is at the forefront of everything we strive to do. We ask that you refrain from using Purple Grass while pregnant or breastfeeding
